Let's Talk: May

Welcome to May everyone. Hope the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. Something new this time around. We'll run this thing from today until the end of May.

So what's new this month?
Well, I've added a number of new features to the site. There's a two new items on the sidebar, the Report and Music Player buttons. Both are self explanatory.



Next is the new forum description headers I've added to a few of the game threads. Most of these are descriptions pulled from Steam with others being filled manually and with youtube videos rather than the Steam videos. Examples here and here

Finally I've also added a random site header for the whole site. It will cycle through 3 different headers at random.


So anything not site related?
For sure! I've added a Jedi Academy + server for all to come and enjoy. It features a mixture of both FFA and Duel Modes and supports some of JKA+ cool new features such as grapple hooks, advanced saber moves, saber colors. Stop on by the thread here if you need support or just want to post about the game. I'll have a new thread there shortly to explain the client side setup.

So what else?
That's all I've got folks. Seriously, I haven't done enough yet? What's wrong with you people! Just joking, have a good one and please feel free to contribute what you've accomplished this month to the Let's Talk. King could mostly claim this one too, but we've also added a UT2k4 server. Looking at Steam at least, not many of us play it.. Though I bet there's some retail copies floating around. If you dig twitch shooters it's one the classics, and lots of fun.

We will probably look into some mods in there at some point. For now it's on a general gametype and map rotation, and there's a web rcon posted in Members Only if you want to skip maps.

I launched a Jabber server last week, too - private messaging for the clan. Looking into a web-based group chat powered by Jabber to possibly replace the shoutbox - that's a long-range plan, though, since it will require some user-account integration to the forum. Just one of the projects getting played with right now.

In other news, this should be a big next few weeks. Rules & guidelines for Triumvirate nominations are being confirmed by the council right now and we should be opening the annual nomination and election period shortly. So, get to thinking about who you would like to see on the Triumvirate (you can nominate yourself, that's fine).

 

Howdy folks,
Love all the neat stuff added to the site and all the hard work everyone has been putting into everything. I've been enjoying playing with the DayZ server. As much as I pull out my hair sometimes I am really liking my progress. All that's left is to figure out why the tow/lift script isn't working, track and make sure maintaining is working properly, and find where some of the AI are still spawning with OP weapons. Then we'll be ready to go public!

Just sayin...hit two birds with one stone and saving hundreds of dollars? Think about it.

 

Consoles are the get gaming fast option. You pay for that in the long run. PC will take more money and effort to get equivalent performance, but then you can do incremental upgrades, build a monster rig that blows away the next few gens of consoles, get cheap games on sale, play all sorts of classics, play all sorts of prior-gen console games, hookup console controllers or any other goofy input device you can think of.. Freedom.


But, that's all secondary. I suggest, if anyone wants to really continue that debate that we split it off into another thread.

 

Gaming Consoles vs PC is always a balancing act. Both can equate to a hefty amount of dollars either way. I say whoever wants to play on whatever platform of their choice have at it. Enjoy gaming!

Well, no job for me yet I don't know if i have the worst luck in the world or what... I am averaging an interview a week and getting told people like me, but never end up getting the job in the end. Ya'll need to pay / wish me luck / send me some of that good karma .

Got a number of personal projects done this month, including getting observium online for my network, and setting up a graylog2 server. Still have lots of stuff on my todo list, including learning logstash, puppet, and php - which I've programmed in a little bit here and there, but i've never seemed to get over that ledge between dabbling and doing simple like includes, and actually being able to make something I WANT to make with it...

Saib, I keep forgetting to check that server out. I kinda skipped UT, but you directed me to it when I came back to PR - I enjoyed the hover board.
Abaddon - welcome to pain. You should be uber proud of that puppy. Arma/dayz is a pig to get going, but when it does!

I have been hopping from game to game - I still haven't found a new home after divorcing Battlefield. None of them feel quite right.

I have been hunting for some smaller, games for us. I stumbled on one called BattleCity - just trying to work out a .NET error to get the server up.

Also thinking of shutting down Starmade until we get an update, and using those resources for something new (I'll wait and see what I get addicted to next)

If anyone knows of any indi, small games I can host - lemme know. I'd like to try a heap of less resource intensive games see if we can't diversify up in this shiz.

Stev and Jabby are teaching me Dota 2 - I feel the rage coming - I can hear them coating their thoughts of "what a noob" when the say "that's ok Sandy - you did good. Oh look! You got A kill." They're so good to me

Dota 2 is a bit rougher than something like League - and I don't think I can even blame it on the things that a lot of the Dota 2 players go to, such as the creep stealing or whatever they call it (you can kill your own creeps to prevent enemies from getting money/exp) and other such things. More in line with all of the shops, the way they do the items in general, etc etc - I would be willing to get into it, but I started getting into League and getting half-decent at it and if I aimed for Dota 2 I would lose any kind of memory/skill I retained for League... which would annoy me. Honestly, I think they should be teaching you League first - it's a starting point, at least, not as hard to learn, and you'll understand the core basics of a MOBA when you get into Dota 2.

I love this idea and love me some indie games. So sick of everyone playing these $60 60gb elite titles. My hard drive and wallet lacks the funds to play with everyone.
