There's a new free-to-play MMORPG that has come to Steam called RaiderZ. It is made by Perfect World Ent. and reminds me of simpler version of Neverwinter. Key highlights for me are there are no class-specific weapons - you can choose whatever weapon set you like, and for those who get annoyed at tab targeting, this game has no targeting system - simply face an enemy and use your mouse to melee or your number keys to cast spells/buffs. You can download on Steam or through Arc Updater, and I'm pretty sure your Zen will be transferred from other Perfect World games (Neverwinter). View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOjv5ZqBBwE The once prosperous and powerful kingdom of Rendel has finally crumbled. Vicious beasts, awakened by the contamination of the Prime Stone, roam the lands with an insatiable thirst for blood and a desire to claim Rendel as their own. The horde has grown too strong and endless waves of mutated creatures continue to slowly claw away at the last remaining barrier between beasts and humans. There is still, however, a small glimmer of hope for the ill-fated kingdom. A team of champions with weapons and armor forged from the contaminated beasts has risen to slay the marauding monsters. Hunt Together or Die Alone Enter a world dominated by fearsome beasts and put your skills to the test! In this free-to-play MMO join a hunting party and engage in fierce battles against colossal monsters. Time attacks and dodges in order to succeed... and survive. Monster Mash Grappling System The monsters in Rendel won't just kindly knock you about: these colossal beasts will throw you, crush you and eat you alive! Dodge and parry to avoid their crushing blows and razor-sharp teeth. Fight Monster with Monster With Conquest Crafting, explore the wonders of Rendel on a quest for the most powerful gear imaginable. Hunt terrifying monsters and turn their claws, horns and other deadly body parts into your own weapons! Choose Your Weapon Characters are customizable to fit players' preferred type of play. Select different types of weapons, skills and their associated combat styles and take on the role of The Defender, The Cleric, The Berserker or The Sorcerer. Suspicious of trying a game with far too many negative reviews, not to mention a notorious anti-cheat system that is infamous for being a rootkit and keylogger... TERA is free now, why haven't we been getting into that?
Why the moderation of Supp's comment? The Wikipedia link to the anti-cheat software (while requiring some work) does make some interesting points. If it's almost true, I wouldn't install it on my PC.
Well it's by Perfect World, same people who did Perfect World, Neverwinter, and numerous other titles that are very popular - probably using very similar code, and can be installed on the trusted Steam or on Arc (what everyone used to download Neverwinter and their other titles). Sooo...I highly doubt they would publish a game after accused of rootkit or keyloggers without looking into it... That is a ridiculous statement at this point.
Plus, we all know how legitimate Wikipedia stands as a source. It is completely dismissed in formal media.

First link - posted on 9/17/2009 (five years ago) - written after reading a wikipedia page. Invalid. Second link - written 8/8/2012 (two years ago) - Claims his computer has a virus and "is doing this" without explaining what is wrong with his computer or showing proof of the problem. Then he goes on to quote how to remove a rootkit from other posts...invalid. I do however like this users comment: "It's a program to make sure you don't hack the client... -.- whatever your using is probably picking it up as a virus, why? Because it's sending information back to PWE, all it does is keep an eye on your client and make sure everything is working fine. If there was a "Virus" in a legit game released by a big company, we wouldn't be on it right now, it would be shut down so fast and we would all be getting payed for the damages to our computers on-top of anything else you wanna throw into the lawsuit, your over exaggerating over your computer working a little harder then normal to run a game in BETA, It has not yet been optimized at all and that includes GameGuard so of course its going to be running in the background and working that hard, that's what beta's/Alpha's/All of these tests are about, optimizing and testing." Third link is Wikipedia, I'm not even going to bother clicking that. Invalid. Unless you can find current evidence that something has actually happened to peoples computers because of this game, stop shooting it down. It was added to Steam this last month and if their were such issues, I'm sure they have been worked out way before Steam release. I don't think Steam would be offering games that have been proven to be rootkits and keyloggers. Go away.
You obviously havent made it through college or ever taken a professional media class. Sent from Tapatalk on Android
Actually, I have taken some college classes. On break right now. You obviously haven't stepped within 500m of a college campus and that's why you don't know anything about Wikipedia.
Ive taken many years of journalistic writing. If you use wiki as a source, its an instant F on a report at a university. Just sayin... Sent from Tapatalk on Android
http://gyazo.com/cf830737bd49de6b35919b57ebbc5f58 You're letting your 'many years' and Journalistic Writing degree show. You don't cite the Wiki page, you cite the sources that the page cites.
Like Sony? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal It's not unheard of. And no one (besides some random internet posts) is claiming that this is a malicious virus, but it is fairly well established that their cheat protection is a rootkit, and letting a rootkit on your system knowingly is a Bad Idea. No matter how good their intentions, it's bad news to let someone bypass your system security like that. Also, lesson for the day -- Wiki is not infallible. But it's far more adaptable and current than any university class you've ever taken, and the contributors are in general better at critical thinking than the instructor who threatened to flunk you for sourcing Wiki. In an academic sense, no - you shouldn't source Wiki. But it's an excellent research tool. Read it, follow the references, think critically. The class that told you "F for using Wiki" didn't teach you critical thinking - that's an important lesson for everyone to learn to survive the 'net. And when someone sends you a Wiki link and you dismiss their point of view simply because of the URL, you're failing to think for yourself. Read the link and think it through yourself, don't just blindly dismiss (or follow).
Mod mode activated -- Everyone needs to chill a bit here. The posts are getting more personal than on-topic and if they stay that way I'm locking it.
I would have liked this thread to have gone more like: Abaddon's post Supps Post Forum discussion about risk of rootkit installation More informed community. Win. Supp, please don't post facepalms that call people stupid - it's incredibly rude. Abaddon, Please play nice with Supp - I think he has been punished for long enough now.
The captions didn't call anyone stupid, but did imply something was dumb - ie a post. But I found these images just by googling things like facepalm, double facepalm, triple facepalm... I was upset by the amount of Star Trek I posted. And trust me, it was brutally too kind compared to what I had typed up in words before substituting it with that. Funny thing is, the long post would have been a very informative post, I just didn't like how I was using my wit like daggers. And I also knew it all would have been dismissed instantly.
offtopic: I remember there was a game called Alliance of Valiant Arms, which also had some sort of rootkit? On topic: So wait, is it like Diablo or is more like WoW? After hearing about the Rootkit stuff, I don't think I would like to try it. I'm a massive safety whore I don't like downloading anything which isn't from a trusted source, even though Perfect world seems to be a legit company it's still very fishy that they would do stuff like that.
Yes it doesn't make sense to me really, I have played many of Perfect Worlds games and have never had any issues with this. I mean half the clan was playing Neverwinter for the longest time. This game is more like Wow than Diablo. Diablo is a point and click mmo whereas this is a wasd movement live action aiming game. I would compare it most to Guild Wars 2 over WoW in terms of movement and playstyle. But I suppose it probably wouldn't be a good idea to risk it when there are other games out there that people aren't accusing of being harmful to your computer. Speaking of which, you should get GW2 Stormy!
