So, if anyone is interested in a change of pace, or going retro, check out Brutal Doom Mod Site: http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom Also check out this site: http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Brutal_Doom Some Youtube videos: You'll need the WAD files in order to play. You can buy the game off steam, extract them from a disk, etc. you'll want to install Zandronum, a program that makes old games like Doom work on a modern operating system. It can be found here: http://zandronum.com/download Run, and point to the folder where you extracted the wads. To install Brutal Doom on top of this, download from the mod site (http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom) and extract into the "skins" folder in the Zandronum folder. After then, select the WAD you want to play, and click play. Note: using Zandronum and Brutal Doom adds new features, such as crouching and jumping, mouse aiming, and also allows full screen modern resolutions, such as 1920x1080, so I'd advise taking the time to configure your options.
Some other good mods to add: High Definition Textures: http://freelanzer.com/doomtextures/zdoom-dhtp-20130802.pk3 High Definition Sounds: http://www.perkristian.net/sounds/pk_doom_sfx.zip if you place all of these in the "skins" folder, they will run for ALL wads played using zandronum (including hexen, heretic, chex, etc.) The other option is a bit more complicated, and that is to place the mods elsewhere (like make a "mods" folder) and then edit the zandronum ini file under [autoloader] for each game you want to load those mods, and add path=<path to mod file here> path=<path to second mod file here> and so on http://www.doomworld.com/vb/source-ports/62445-autoloading-mods-with-autoload-removed/ Feel free to post your own mods if you know of some good ones
